Local Climate Zones of Oslo published in the LCZ Wudapt repository

4 June 2021

English:

The cartography of Local Climate Zones (LCZ) of Oslo has been published in the lcz-generator repository (https://lcz-generator.rub.de/), a new tool created by the Climatology group of Bochum University and the WUDAPT project. These maps divide the space into different categories that represent the surface structure (e.g., height and density of buildings and vegetation) and the permeability/impermeability of the soil. The cartography has been done by training areas prepared within the project of Laurence Sigler, co-directed by Joan Gilabert and Gara Villalba, entitled “Exploring Methods for Developing Local Climate Zones to Support Climate Research“. This new tool based on the application of a machine learning method with Google Earth Engine is published in the article: Demuzere, M., Kittner, J., Bechtel, B. (2021).  LCZ Generator: a web application to create Local Climate Zone maps. Frontiers in Environmental Science 9:637455. https://doi.org/10.3389/fenvs.2021.637455.

It currently has more than 150 LCZ cartographies that can be downloaded for free. On that website, you will find the LCZ map of Barcelona, generated by Joan Gilabert.

LCZ Generator: a web application to create Local Climate Zone maps. Frontiers in Environmental Science 9:637455. https://doi.org/10.3389/fenvs.2021.637455.
