URBAG presentation at the GORDON 2024 Conference

Gara Villalba presented her work at the Industrial Ecology GORDON 2024 conference held in Switzerland in May 2024. Gara Villalba presented her work “Material Flow Analysis: From Chemical Substances to Urban Metabolism”, in a session held in memory of Bob Ayres:

Urban and peri-urban agriculture (UA) can provide locally grown food at low environmental impact by maximizing the recycling of nutrients from the city to agricultural lands. We develop a python-based tool to perform prospective-regionalized life cycle assessment (LCA) of urban agriculture (UA) and apply it to the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) in Spain to evaluate feasible theoretical scenarios of various nutrient circularity strategies such as compost from municipal solid waste treatment, and struvite and ammonium salts recovered from wastewater treatment plants.
