Tropospheric ozone (O3) is an important surface pollutant in urban areas, and it has complex formation mechanisms that depend on the atmospheric chemistry and meteorological factors. The severe reductions observed in anthropogenic emissions during the COVID-19 pandemic can further our understanding of the photochemical mechanisms leading to O3 formation and provide guidance for policies aimed at reducing air pollution.
The agricultural land of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona has been reduced from 20% to 8-9% over the past decades, despite urban gardening being supported by municipal actions. Urban agriculture constitutes a nature-based solution to several societal challenges.

The main goal of this PhD position is to assess the impacts of green infrastructure to reduce GHG in urban areas. To achieve this, the candidate will work with the Weather and Research Forecasting model (WRF) coupled with chemical transport (WRF-Chem) with the GHG tracer option called WRF-GHG coupled to the UCM BEP+BEM (Building Effect Parameterization coupled with Building Energy Model). The PhD position is funded by the LaCaixa INPhINIT doctoral fellowships offered through the doctoral programme of ICTA-UAB

Angelica Mendoza finishes her MSCA scholarship PROspecTive Environmental AssessmeNt of Urban Agriculture-Emerging Systems (PROTEAN), which she carried out within the project URBAG. The aim was to develop prospective life cycle databases to calculate future life cycle impacts of food production to enable the comparison of food production via conventional agriculture and via urban agriculture, all in a future context.
La Gara Villalba va presentar el passat 17 de setembre del 2022 una ponència-càpsula informativa en el marc de la segona sessió de l’Assemblea Ciutadana pel Clima a Barcelona. Aquesta ponència, realitzada en format presencial, va titular-se: l’Emergència climàtica en relació al model urbà (metabolisme i mobilitat).
El passat 6 d'octubre de 2022 la dra Gara Villalba va donar una xerrada durant la jornada "Cobertes verdes i productives com a estratègia per a l'adaptació al canvi climàtic" dins del Cicle de seminaris tècnics sobre accions locals d'adaptació al canvi climàtic organitzada per la Xarxa de Ciutats i Pobles cap a la Sostenibilitat, la Diputació de Barcelona i l'Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona.
