Ricard holds a PhD in Environmental Science and Technology and an MSc in Mathematical Modelling from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. His bachelor’s degrees in physics and chemistry are also from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. His doctoral research was focused on understanding the influence of green infrastructure on local temperature and the emission and capture of atmospheric carbon dioxide. He is interested in uncovering the impact of extreme climate events, such as heat waves and droughts, on the urban vegetation and its capacity to provide thermal comfort and air cooling in urban areas, as well as capture atmospheric carbon dioxide at the regional scale. Ricard performed a research stay during its PhD in the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement (LSCE) in Paris-Saclay. For his research, Ricard uses atmospheric, urban and biosphere models such as WRF-Chem, BEP-BEM, BEP-Tree and VPRM.
